Reggie Bush returned the Heisman Trophy he earned in 2005.  Based on his questionable integrity during his USC career, the Heisman Trust was going to ask for it back, anyway. Really? If we are going to begin rescinding trophies over marred morality and integrity, they better start packing these babies up all over the country, beginning with OJ Simpson’s trophy.

What gets me is that Reggie broke NCAA rules by accepting lavish gifts, but is he truly the only guilty party of this whole USC fiasco. My answer would be a resounding no. And, what truly bothers me is the fact we continue to see college programs penalized, including the athletes left in the wake of the destruction who had absolutely nothing to do with the violations, but the coaches go free, able to pick up NFL and other illustrious college positions. More than likely to continue their poisoning of programs. Case in point, John Calipari.

So while Reggie is returning his Heisman, where is Pete Carroll? And don’t tell me he’s an innocent bystander in all of this. Coaches are not innocent bystanders. And if it were up to me, any program that is found guilty of NCAA violations, the coach responsible for the program during that time would be suspended from coaching, any coaching. If a program is on probation for three years, then the coach is suspended from coaching, even pee-wee league, for three years. End of story. I’m sick of seeing programs and student athletes penalized while coaches and their staff walk away.

So if Reggie has to hand over the Heisman, which he earned for his play on the field, not because he took a limo to an event or someone bought him some bling, then Pete Carroll should hand over the blue and silver reigns of the Seahawks. And shame on the Seahawks for hiring him.

  1. Hey bud, great blog you got over here, keep it up! To be honest I don’t think that Bush giving up the Heisman is all that big a deal. The thing is that you can’t take away the fact that he still did all those great things. It wasn’t steroids it was something else, not specified which to be isn’t a big deal in the big picture. Also, you think you could check out my blog cuz I really wanna hear your thoughts on mine.

    • Thanks, Chris. I did take a peek at your blog and find it very informative. However, I’m not a “bud,” I’m a chick. Yes, a woman who loves sports. My blog is just personal day-to-day stuff, but I love sports, grew up with sports, so naturally it will be a large part of my postings. Keep up the good work
